Riverside Science Fair
Riverside's fourth and fifth grades will be participating in a school science fair. School winners will go on to compete in the Regional Science Fair. Students' projects are due toward the beginning of January. Only students who receive a letter grade of an "A" on the projects will have an opportunity to participate in the Riverside Elementary Science Fair.
What is a Science Fair Project? In a Science Fair Project, the student creates a scientific problem they must solve or create a question that they must answer by completing an experiment using the SCIENTIFIC METHOD. The student will record all the observations of their experiment. Then, the student will make a display of their entire project.
PARTICIPATION IS REQUIRED! Every forth and fifth grade student must complete a project. Remember, only students who make an "A" in the classroom will be invited to participate in the Riverside Elementary Fair. The finished project will count as a 100 point test grade for the third nine weeks grading period.
Each student MUST complete the Student Project Proposal found in the SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT STUDENT PACKET no later than November 14, 2011. A modified Science Fair Packet is available below. Early proposals will be accepted. The Science Project Proposal is NOT the project. It is the plan for the project. Students may not begin working on their projects until the Project Proposal has been approved.
Parent involvement is allowed and encouraged. This can be a special time for you and your child to work together. However, your child must be the primary worker. Students must have a complete understanding of their project.
* Paula's Educational Supply, Michaels, School Aids, and Paper Shack all sell display or project boards. You can buy color display boards for a few dollars more. If you have any questions, please call the school.
